About the Author

Dan KoffmanThroughout his more than 45 year career as a successful graphic and commercial artist, product designer and marketer of consumer products, and fine artist, Koffman has remained dedicated to a career not limited to “staying within the lines.” Born in 1950 and raised in Los Angeles, California, Koffman excelled at industrial design and architecture, winning the Gold Medal at the California State Fair in 1966 for his building designs, and was employed as a draftsman on the Mariner Mars Project . . . all before completing high school.

For over 20 years (between 1970-1990 for his own company - Bibi Products, Inc.), he applied his artistic style and Art with a Smile to a broad range of over 1000 internationally marketed consumer products until relocating to the Monterey Peninsula and establishing an international advertising agency, Bottomline Communications, in 1990.

Dozens of corporations such as Honeywell, Diners Club, Libbey Glass, Toshiba and financial institutions have commissioned him to create totally unique works of art for many applications, injecting an unexpected and humorous twist into otherwise traditional marketing, merchandising and advertising campaigns.

“I opened Koffman Gallery in Monterey in the 1990s with a focus on artwork that celebrates people’s passions. I have always called my work, Art with a Smile!” he says.

Koffman believes that art is communication and that the artist has the privilege of choosing what is to be communicated. Over 20 years ago, he designed the Flag of Peace and Freedom, choosing to let the images of the sun, birds and sky express his desire for peace. Every year, he corresponds with the Leaders of every Country of the World. Thus far, 32 countries have flown the Flag of Peace and Freedom.

The Simple Pleasures for Special Seniors© book series, Koffman believes, is art as communication at its most powerful and is the perfect blending of his artistic talents and upbeat, positive community activism on behalf of seniors.

Koffman says, “The experience of witnessing the progression of my dad’s dementia and the toll it extracted on my mom, as the primary caregiver, and my family registered deeply in my heart and mind . . . I vowed to work to have some kind of positive effect for all involved. Simple Pleasures for Special Seniors¬© is the realization of that goal!”

Dan, his wife Sandy, her mother and two wonderful dogs live on an island in the Pacific Northwest surrounded by his studio and art gallery and their gardens.
